Dame Helen Mirren.

In future I'm going to try to write something on people who dazzle me with their red carpet looks. It might be about people who sweep me of my feet every single time, but it might also be about people who have really made an effort the last couple of weeks. From time to time I will select someone, sketch my opinion (remember I'm not writing because I want to critique someone) and show some pictures. The first one being Helen Mirren. There’s something truly great about Dame Helen Mirren. She caries fashion in a very remarkable way, especially seen her age (which in no way is a negative remark). She possesses this sort of ease towards the garments that she wears on public appearances which make the designs fit her very well. She obviously does not want to impress anybody with her choice of garments, it’s more something like: “Okay, the way I look isn’t all that important, but since we are here I might as well look the part.”  I believe she approaches it with a sort of humour. Indeed it’s fun to dress up nicely (everybody wants to look pretty), but I don’t think she feels it truly/profoundly ads something to her personality. In a way you can divide people who wear fashion well in 2 categories. One being the people that work in fashion and are obsessed with fashion for all the right reasons, namely because it is the extension of their personality (The Anna Dello Russo’s and Giovanna Battaglia’s in this world), the others not working in fashion but being open to enjoy it either way (The Helen Mirren’s and Meryl Streep’s in this world).  The first ones truly need it (in fact they breath it) and the second ones might not need it but they will never condemn it. There is one thing that binds them, and that is that they do not use fashion to impress anybody. I have said it before and I will keep repeating it, there is no such thing as dress to impress. You wear certain garments because it makes you feel happier, or because you think it fits you, because it makes you comfortable (not in a practical way, but because you feel at ease), not to overpower someone. If you want to make fashion work, wear it because of you and for your own benefit, never because of someone else. I will just show you some of latest Helen Mirren looks and you’ll immediately get the point. Bear in mind that she is 65 and still standing strong.
 Helen Mirren in Lanvin.

Helen Mirren in Alberta Ferretti (I think she's wearing Sergio Rossi heels measuring 13-14cm/5-5.5inches!)

Helen Mirren in Vivienne Westwood (Although I believe the silky fabric makes it look a bit like cardboard.).

Helen Mirren in Marchesa, Elie Saab, Paule Ka and Elie Saab again.
